1) Why do we have three worship services? |
| |
MCC is one congregation that offers three distinct services. We are striving to be an “Acts 2 Church”. We believe that the Word of God is to be celebrated and spread to all people. Each service offers fundamental celebrations in a special way. Communion, invitation, music, the Word of God, the Lord’s Prayer, tithes and gifts, and fellowship, are core beliefs and practices for each service at MCC. |

2) What is the "Lord's Prayer?" |
| |
Found in the gospels (the first four books of the New Testament which talk about Jesus Christ), the Lord's Prayer is shared by the congregation each Sunday. It can be found in Matthew 6:19 -15 but when it is shared in church there are some variations. At MCC, we use the word "debts" when we ask God for forgiveness. Other churches use "trespasses" or "sins" and any of these is scriptural. The Lord's Prayer is an outline for us to use when we pray to God. The full Lord's prayer is: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for
Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen.

3) Why are candles lit? |
| |
As we begin our service, we light altar candles to represent the presence and light of God. At the end of the service, this light is carried out to represent the responsibility we have to share the love and light of God with all the world. |

4) What is the "Gloria Patri?" |
| |
"Gloria Patri" is translated to mean, "Glory to the Father" and we sing this short response after the Lord's Prayer. For those who wish to see the music, it is #108 in our hymnal. |

5) Which version of scripture is read on Sunday? |
| |
While our church suggests you choose a version of the Bible that you like, on Sundays the scriptures are usually read from the New International Version of scripture. At times, the worship leader will read from a different version, according to their preference. The pew Bibles are available for you to read along with the pastor and worship leader. Scriptures are also displayed on large print dual media screens at the front of the sanctuary. If you need a personal Bible, please see the pastor. |

6) What is the "Invitation"? |
| |
We believe, at MCC, that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important relationship a person can have. After the sermon you are invited to make a decision to accept Christ, if you have not done so, or to transfer your membership to MCC if you do not have a church home in Monticello. If you decide to come to the front of the church during the invitation hymn, the pastor will greet you, and ask you if you wish to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, or if you wish to transfer your membership. At the end of the hymn, the congregation will be seated and he will ask you once again, "Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and do you accept him as your personal Lord and Savior?" If you do, your response will be "I do." A service of baptism will be planned for those who are accepting Christ for the first time and the pastor or any elder can share with you any information you might have as you take this step in your faith journey. |

7) What about the Lord's Supper? Can I participate? |
| |
The Lord's Supper is a time of remembrance of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for each one of us. To share in this memorial, all that is required is that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The Lord's Supper is observed each week at MCC. At our traditional service, our Elders will share a prayer for the bread and the cup of juice, which represent Jesus' body and his blood. The deacons then pass the two elements among the congregation. When the bread and the cup come to you, take them, mediate and then partake of each element when you are ready. Communion is also served in the 8:00 a.m. service. Participants in the contemporary service are invited to come forward to take communion during a time of song, worship, and prayer. |

8) What are "tithes" and do I have any? |
| |
A "tithe" according to the scriptures is an offering to God that represents 10% of what you have in your possession. Our church uses this as a benchmark for our offerings to God, suggesting that 10% of your income be given to the church. Many are unable to offer this amount and others are able to share much more. The gift you share with the church is a blessing to God, regardless of the amount, however, according to scripture, we all should aim to give a tithe, or 10%. |

9) What is the "Doxology?" |
| |
Once again, this is a short hymn that is sung as a response to God and in thanksgiving for his allowing us to share our gifts. It is sung after we collect our offerings, and in honor of God, we all stand, if able, while we sing the Doxology. It is #109 in our hymnal. |

10) What is fellowship time? |
| |
Every Sunday a time fellowship is held in the foyer in front of the sanctuary before each service. After the 9:00 a.m. service coffee, juice, donuts, and often times cookies are shared. This is a great time for you to get to know the different members of MCC. Following this time of fellowship, Sunday School classes and discussion groups are offered. |

11) Does the church have a nursery? |
| |
Yes it does! A qualified nursery attendant who is often helped by volunteers serves our nursery which is located in the rear of the church, in a room off the sanctuary. MCC realizes that your child is your most important possession and we provide loving care for them, much as you would at home. Please feel free to take your child to the nursery and introduce yourself to the nursery attendant before church. The nursery is staffed during church and the Sunday School hour. A paging system is in place and a pager will be given to you while your child is in the nursery. We use this system in the event you are needed immediately. |

| |
Casual dress is worn at the 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. services. A more formal attire is worn at the 10:30 a.m. service. More importantly, MCC believes that you should come as you are and God will do the rest. |
